    FINALLY!!

After two weeks of essentially no new developments with the house, I came home after an overnight to CABINETS!!  Cabinets have been one of the features I have been the most excited about because they are custom made by Kent Moore.  And to make the cabinet experience even better, the installer is amazingly spot on (he also did the closets). Once I got comfortable (changed out of my work clothes…), I immediately went into the house where the cabinet installers were still working.  This is how good these guys are….I immediately noticed that the laundry room cabinet doors were uneven.  I didn’t even say anything to anyone because I knew…

    We have shelves and..

shelves…and shelves! H pretty much designed the closets and did a pretty darn good job.  With all the shelves in place, I now realize how much storage space we are going to have. I can now be one of those Sam’s Club people! Not that I will, but you never know when a year’s worth of toilet paper will come in handy.  Do kids still wrap houses?………The real question is can I get a Sam’s Club size bottle of whiskey. Sam’s Club is the final stage of adulthood right? I mean if you have enough cash and storage for a whole case of toilet paper that pretty much screams adulting. …

    One Month Down…..

Well, it’s official.  We’ve been in the camper for exactly one month and so far, have survived.  Yeah, it’s not great and it’s sure not a fun camping trip but we’re making due.  Our biggest issue, beside constantly being on top of one another, is laundry.  We are using a portable RV washer and garment dryer.  It’s getting the job done but it does take a bit of babysitting.  One normal load of laundry can literally take all day to wash and dry.  We’ve started hanging tshirts, socks, and shorts out to dry instead of putting them in the “dryer”.  When the humidity is high (which is always), anything cotton…

    We have a slab!

Geez Louise! The last 2 weeks have been insane.  Last week I was in St. Petersburg, FL for my home office training and it was intense.  I think I’m finally starting to make sense of it all……20 spreadsheets later! But while I didn’t think I was progressing professionally, our home is finally starting to take shape! TA DA! A SLAB! We’ve been concerned that the foot print seems a little small but walking around on the slab this weekend, I’m starting to see the walls and shape of the house come together in my mind.  Unfortunately, we were not able to move out of the house this weekend thanks to…

    Time Flies……

Wow…it feels like it’s been forever since I’ve updated this blog. So much is happening that it’s hard to keep up….especially since I haven’t been home! Last Monday I flew to Memphis and spent the entire week training in north east Arkansas for my new job.  I flew home Friday, spent Saturday and Sunday (today) working on getting ready to move.  As I write this, I’m in Houston so I can get to my morning flight to Tampa for home office training in St. Petersburg, FL tomorrow!  I’ll fly home Friday and we plan to move to our new location this weekend! Fortunately, Rusty is totally capable of holding down…

    My Interior Design Secret….

We close next week on our construction loan and so soon the fun stuff will begin! While I am a planner, I am not an interior designer despite what my current home would tell you.  It’s taken me almost 20 years to finally decide what I wanted to do with this space and as soon as I was done with it…..we listed it to sell.  It’s gotten some great reviews and we’re just waiting for that win-win offer to come in. Recently, Rusty has started to ask me what colors I want the exterior and interior of the house.  Uh….I dunno? I am not good with abstract decisions.  I like…

Why I didn’t ask my friends in the mortgage loan industry to do our loan

Having friends in various service industries is a great thing to have. My realtor is a personal friend. I have friends in the hotel industry, medical, construction, veterinary medicine, baking, beauty, etc and I support them when I can and seek their advice. All of my friends at some point have reached out to me for veterinary advice as well. And that’s ok. But I didn’t ask any of my friends in the loan industry for help. WHY? Because I want to keep my friends. This week, I think my loan “specialist” cried. Why you ask? Because he had prepared us that we would be closing on our construction loan…

What I DON’T want to be when I grow up

As I have approached 40, I have seriously considering returning to school.  One train of thought is to go after my Bachelors in Veterinary Technology. Another is to make a career change; to what I have no idea though.  The one thing I definitely would never want to be is loan specialist. I HATE reading financial documents.  The numbers scare me and there is always something that comes up that we didn’t consider that makes what ever we’re trying to accomplish even more expensive. I don’t understand why the process takes so much time and why things can’t be plainly spelled out to where you don’t need a degree in…
