    House update!

Sorry for the lack of updates on the house.  2 things have been kinda slow…..the house and the internet.  I use so much data for the new job that I have to save house updates for when I have access to unlimited and FREE internet.  So here I am in a hotel room in San Antonio! One quality that we enjoy of our new home is all the deer that we see on a daily basis.  It’s almost like being in the hill country the way the deer hang around and aren’t afraid of us at all.  So much so they’ve helped themselves to one of my pots of flowers. …

    Father’s Day and Alzheimers

My Dad is my favorite person in the world. He taught me to fish, to hunt, to drive, how to handle boys, how to drive a boat, how to use a hammer and power drill, how to read a REAL map, and so many other things.  He has always been my go to for almost anything. Until Alzheimer’s started to take him away from us. Dad and D geocaching when D was about 7. Celebrating Father’s Day with Alzheimer’s is difficult.  With my new job, I’m able to basically decide where in my territory I want to work any given week so I purposely positioned myself in the Austin area…

This Is One Hot MUDDY Mess!

One last look…. Well, it’s been a week since we moved from our home in Iola to Bryan. While I believe in the end this will all be worth it….for the LOVE OF GOD can someone please get rid of this mud. We moved in on Sunday like I posted last week and then sure enough..it rained. Not just a shower or a sprinkle, but full fledge summer thunderstorm dumping at least 2 inches on us over night. Now, we live at a construction site. We’ve had a bull dozer come through and disturb all of the soil. What we apparently dug up is mud from HELL. I didn’t realize…

    It’s Moving Day!

A lot has happened in the last week but today was finally MOVING DAY! And we couldn’t have picked the worst day. 95 degrees, 200% humidity, and not a breeze to be found. We. Are. Soaked. I really should have just gotten the bigger unit….this is a 10×10. I had hoped to get the camper moved over yesterday. But thanks to our builder having a load of lumber delivered and placed in the exact place I needed to pull through to get to the back of the property where our hook ups are, that didn’t happen. I did manage to get a lot of packing done and hauled a load…

    We have a slab!

Geez Louise! The last 2 weeks have been insane.  Last week I was in St. Petersburg, FL for my home office training and it was intense.  I think I’m finally starting to make sense of it all……20 spreadsheets later! But while I didn’t think I was progressing professionally, our home is finally starting to take shape! TA DA! A SLAB! We’ve been concerned that the foot print seems a little small but walking around on the slab this weekend, I’m starting to see the walls and shape of the house come together in my mind.  Unfortunately, we were not able to move out of the house this weekend thanks to…

    Time Flies……

Wow…it feels like it’s been forever since I’ve updated this blog. So much is happening that it’s hard to keep up….especially since I haven’t been home! Last Monday I flew to Memphis and spent the entire week training in north east Arkansas for my new job.  I flew home Friday, spent Saturday and Sunday (today) working on getting ready to move.  As I write this, I’m in Houston so I can get to my morning flight to Tampa for home office training in St. Petersburg, FL tomorrow!  I’ll fly home Friday and we plan to move to our new location this weekend! Fortunately, Rusty is totally capable of holding down…

    This is really happening!

This week we made our final selections for our new home! I’m really starting to get excited.  Before, it was just this abstract thought of an imaginary house that only existed on paper.  But now it’s finally taking form in real life and our minds! We picked our cabinet designs and colors, granite, backsplash, and flooring. We are getting Kent Moore custom cabinets (swoon)…..their showroom is AMAZ-BALLS! I never figured I would get excited over cabinets but OH. M. GEEE! The kitchen might end up being my favorite room. I’m going to get standard drawers, BIG DRAWERS, corner cabinets, and the COLOR! Even H got super excited when they showed…

Country Living Is More Than Crickets and Lightning Bugs……..

When people think of “country living”, they think of peaceful nights where you can see the stars, hear the crickets and the frogs, and see lightning bugs dance in the night.  And they’re right……..but they are also full of romantic bullshit.  Living in the country also means critters interrupting your sleep because the night is when they come out to forage.  Now, if you don’t own any animals yourself, you can have a peaceful nights sleep without worry (usually).  But, if you own a pack of dogs that enjoy tormenting the small wildlife that come into your yard, you will have your sleep disrupted as I did very early this…

    Freezer Saga continues….

My goal is to get our deep freezer empty of all miscellaneous items, with the exception of the 4 shelves of venison, by the 19th so H can take it to work and set it up for the guys to enjoy.  We’ll never eat the amount of venison that’s in there by the time we need to move and I just do not want to deal with it while we live in our camper.  I would rather all of that meat go to good use than risk it spoiling.  So here we are! Week 2 of trying to empty it! I did 3 meals this past week that were met…

    Will you pass the test?

I am not an overly religious person.  I’m not someone who identifies with a particular organized section of Christianity.  I was raised Lutheran and currently, sporadically, attend a Freewill Baptist Church.  Growing up, church was mandatory every Sunday and was a ceremony with a lot of pomp and circumstance.  Robes, candles, communion, and lots of standing and kneeling. As an adult, I strayed from the church but not from Christianity.  I was still a spiritual person with faith and a relationship with God. I lived a fairly sheltered life so there wasn’t a lot of proof in faith. I can’t say I was ever tested in that faith growing up…
